About JEE Main 2016
Prior to year 2012, AIEEE and IIT-JEE was conducted separately as entrance examinations for admission in NITs and IITs respectively and other engineering college throughout the country that accepts these entrance examinations scores. As a replacement to these examinations, in the year 2012 CBSE announced JEE Main and JEE Advance to minimize the extra burden. The eligible candidates on the basis of performance in JEE main appear in JEE advance to admission in IITs and ISM Dhanbad.
The decision of Joint Admission Board to conduct the two-phase JEE pattern examination ‘JEE Main followed by JEE Advance’ was approved by the IIT Councilin September 2013, for admission in IITs and ISM in 2014.
The Joint admission process for admission in IITs, NITs, IIITs and other Government Funded Technical Institutes was conducted by Joint Seat Allocation Authority 2015 (JoSAA 2015).

Eligibility Criteria:
The eligibility to appear in the JEE examination is on the basis of the performance in the class 12th with Science and Maths or equivalent qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main). The JEE (Main) Paper-1 is an eligibility test for the JEE Advance, for the aspirants willing to go for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs. The Institutions of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland and Odisha, which were earlier admitting based on their State Level Examination, now have joined JEE (Main) system. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main) - 2016 application form online.
Admission to government colleges of repute like NITs, IIITs and other reputed institutions that are participating through Central Seat Allocation Board is on the basis of  JEE Main 2016 All India Rank and the criteria of subject combinations.
The candidate must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subject with atleast 45% marks (40% in case of candidate belonging to reserved category) in each of the subjects.
B.ARCH./B.PLANNING
Mathematics subject alongwith 50% marks in total including five subjects.
A candidate can attempt a maximum of 3 times in JEE (Main). As Maharashtra and Odisha states have joined JEE (Main) system, the age limit for admission to institutions in these states which were earlier admitting candidates based on their State level examinations, will be as practiced earlier. The number of attempts in these states will also be as practiced earlier. This will, not be applicable for admission to IITs/NITs/IITs/CFTIs
The decision of the JEE Apex Board regarding the eligibility of any applicant shall be final.

Apply Online
Candidate can apply for JEE (Main) - 2016 ‘ON-LINE’ only through official website of JEE(Main) (www.jeemain.nic.in). The candidates, if using Internet Explorer for browsing, are advised to use Internet Explorer 8 and above. Before apply, candidates are advised to read carefully the instructions under application procedure.
New Candidates have to register themselves under New Candidate Registration. There you will see three steps. Step 1:  Fill the application form; Step 2: Upload scanned image; Step 3: Pay the examination fee.  Candidates are advised to complete all the three steps carefully and submit the registration by clicking on ‘Apply for JEE (Main) – 2016’ tab.
In case you have already registered your candidature, pls. sign in by entering application number and password under ‘ONLY REGISTERRED CANDIDATE S SIGN IN’ tab.
Candidates are advised to please ensure that they are filling genuine Application Form available online at JEE (Main) website (www.jeemain.nic.in).

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
To avoid any misunderstanding for application process or admission process, we suggest the aspirants to follow JEE Main 2016 Important instructions before applying. To read the instructions, pls. click on the following link:

JEE Main application form will be made available only at official website www.jeemain.nic.in.
JEE Main 2016 application form will only be available in online mode. Candidates have to apply online only. The candidates must see that they are filling the genuine application form.
Before filling the application form, the candidate is advised to ensure their eligibility as per the criteria laid down for JEE (Main), JEE (Advanced) and participating State Institutions (as applicable). Filling more than one application form will lead to rejection of the candidature. Candidates must ensure that details like candidate’s name, parents name, date of birth etc. must be filled exactly the same as mentioned in Class 12th Mark sheet, no prefix such as Mr/Ms./Shri/Smt./Dr. etc should be used.
The fee is paid either by credit/debit card or through e-challan generated during the online filling of the application form. The payment should be made in the Syndicate/Canara/ICICI/HDFC Bank in cash in case of e-challan. Under any circumstances, the application fee once paid, will not be refunded (full or partial).
The candidates are advised to fill the form carefully. As form once submitted, will become non-editable. However, during the month of January, a chance may be given to the candidates to correct/modify some of the particular(s) of the application form online only, mentioning the valid reason(s). For this, the candidates must regularly visit the official website and see newspapers for the period of online correction(s)/modification(s).
A candidate has to upload his/her most recent passport size colour photograph (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm, size below 100 kb) with light background, signature and thumb impression. The candidate photograph must be simple without glasses, hat, cap etc. Candidates are advised not to send hard copy of the application i.e. confirmation page to JEE (Main) Secretariat. However, the candidates are advised to retain hard copy of the application i.e. confirmation page for future reference or correspondence, if any.
The status of application can be viewed on JEE (Main) official website.
The candidates must have their own personal and valid email id. They are also advised to have their own mobile number and retain the same mobile number and email-id in use which they have furnished in the application form because the important information may be given to the candidates through SMS or e-mail.
The candidates are advised to retain a hard copy of complete application i.e. confirmation page /acknowledgement slip for future reference or correspondence, if required.

The fee may be submitted either by any credit/debit card or through e-Challan of Syndicate/Canara/ICICI/HDFC Bank.
NOTE :
(1) 
In case the examination fee is paid through credit/debit cards, the candidate will need to pay an additional processing charge as following
Credit Card: 1.20% of the examination fee plus the service tax as applicable.
Debit Card: 0.75% + taxes for examination fee up to Rs. 2000 and 1% + taxes for examination fee more than Rs. 2000.
(2) Application fee once paid will not be refunded (full or partial) under any circumstances.





Admit Card:
The candidates who have applied successfully, can download their Admit Card from JEE (Main) official website starting from 2nd week of March 2016. Before doing that they must provide the details of  Class 12th or equivalent qualifying examination like Roll No. and other details on JEE Main website. The aspirants should visit the JEE Main website to know the updates. They may also contact the call centre ( 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.) for any facilitation. The contact nos. are available on the JEE Main website.

Planning.) of JEE (Main), are advised to bring their own clip board, geometry box set, pencils, erasers and colour pencils or crayons.
12.  Rough Work (Pen and Paper Based Examination): All rough work is to be done in the Test Booklet only. The candidate should NOT do any rough work or put stray mark on the Answer Sheet.
13.  Rough Work (Computer Based Examination): Paper for Rough work will be provided at the examination centre
